Actively engaged in the eco-tourism business, the discovery of the 23 coloured earth constitutes of a unique geological feature in this part of the world. The range of natural and green landscapes revolves around the indigenous fauna and flora. Many activities are available such as: Quad Biking, Zip-lines, Nepalese Bridge, Mountain Luge Kart, Trekking and private trips. Casela Nature Parks
Casela is one of the most popular leisure and attraction parks in Mauritius offering a variety of fun and thrilling activities to individuals, families and corporates. The park spans over 350 hectares and is divided into 5 zones, each with its own unique characteristic.
The 5 zones are Thrill Mountain, Predator Kingdom, African Safari, Pangia Birds and Rides and World of Events.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden
The Pamplemousses Garden, covered by 37.5 hectare, now known as the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, in memory of the Father of the Nation, offers visitors a rich variety of terrestrial and aquatic plants and animals. The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden dates back to the French period. In 1736, the French governor, Mahé de Labourdonnais, chose to set up his domain around the present Main Gate at Pamplemousses. In 1767 of the French Intendent, Pierre Poivre introduced vegetables, fruits and flowers from all over the world. The garden is one of the oldest Botanic Garden of the southern hemisphere.
Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth Geopark
Chamarel’s Seven Coloured Earth Geopark provides a unique opportunity to discover millions of years of history through the iconic 7 Coloured Earth and the Chamarel waterfall - the tallest single drop waterfall in Mauritius. The park, open since the late 1960s, plays a key role in showcasing Chamarel, a region steeped in history and blessed by geography.
You may wonder on the origin of the name 'Chamarel'. It relates to Toussaint-Antoine et Charles-Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel. 2 French brothers who, in 1786, had been granted a concession of land in Chamarel known as ‘Le Nuage’. Charles-Antoine tried to develop the land with sugarcane, cotton and indigo until 1815 when he left Mauritius. Coffee was introduced in Chamarel in 1967 as the location was regarded as having appropriate climate and soil quality.
